So, as hinted in the last post, I've been working on another craft.
A trip to the Value Village and the Home Depot (in which the employee knew immediately I was there for an art project, and not for fixin' up the home. I was a little offended. I can fix things! Hmmph.) Anyway-- I was going to try to make this into a DIY kind of deal, but it's harder to do with only one set of hands than I had anticipated... I'll talk you through the pictures I took.
The plates and sherry glasses are from Value Village and cost me less than $30.
The Value Village by my house is full of treasures! Both of these plates are Walden Bone China and made in England! (I am far from an expert on these sorts of things and don't think I've ever watched an episode of Antiques Roadshow, but as a child of the 90s anything not MADE IN CHINA is pretty neat in my books!)
And then I got some 5Minute EPOXY at the Home Depot for just over $5. I chose this product because it has a very strong bond and dries clear and because numerous people told me to. What can I say, I do what I'm told!
I gave everything a good scrub down and dry and began gluing! Because I need both hands to glue stuff, I don't actually have any pictures of this part of the process, but it came in a syringe in which I could just squeeze the glue and I used a small dollar store paintbrush to evenly spread it.
It says that it should dry in 5 minutes, but the Home Depot employee told me that the best bonds are formed if there's a weight on top, so I enlisted the help of Emily Dickinson and Carl E. Schorske.
I knew those textbooks for this semester would come in handy at SOME POINT.
A few quick glue jobs later, and voila! My very own vintage(ish!) cake stand. Now I just need to start entertaining and having tea parties and I'm all set!
The sherry glasses are ever so slightly off, which I'm bummed about but I know that if I make it again, a ruler is a necessity!
Now, back to the knitting!
This turned out very cute. I've been meaning to make one of these as well. I seriously love the plate on top.
