When at first you don't succeed try try again

All week we planned on making soup for friday night (yeah, that's right, we're a couple of party animals who really know how to have a crazy night). Being so excited about making soup on a friday night earned us endless, merciless teasing from co-workers and friends. We were convinced that not only would the soup be fun to make, but it would be delicious.
We were wrong on both counts.

This is what it was suppose to look like:

Prep is key.
It wasn't looking too bad.

But it went sooooo wrong. The problem? tooo much cilantro (which Jen now HATES) and too much paprika that made it unbearable to eat.
It didn't look anything like the picture! oh well we added veggie meat to see if that would make it better. IT LOOKED LIKE CHILI! We tried to eat it but ended up flushing it. It was sad . . .

Soup attempt #2
We decided that since our first attempt ended in such a resounding FAIL, we decided we would try again on Saturday night.
This time it was Austrian Garlic soup.

Julz was in tears for this portion of the evening.

Saturday's soup was more of a success, it tasted like garlic bread in a bowl. I don't know why this is underlined. Next time we might add potatoes.

Valentines Day Play-by-Play

It was a beautiful day in Vancouver but I spent it inside (I know I know) though you may not feel like I did much I felt pretty productive today. I woke up (fell outta bed dragged a comb across my head) put my clothes in the wash, made oatmeal for breaky (wasn't bad)
Listened to the Canucks game on team 1040 6-2 lost to Minnesota . . . what's going on guys anywho. I made 3 dresses today.

first (actually I made this one last) it's more of a recon it was a long dress, dropped waist I love the pattern but didn't see me wearing it the way it was - i always forget to take before pictures anywho now it's well shorter.

This was a huge mens button up the button are in the back it was intended to be a dress still could be with tights (yes Julz) cause it's rather short

I got this plaid long button up t-shirt dress at walmart a few years ago in Powell River and have NEVER worn it and changed it as well. There's a purple one still dunno what to do about that.

Now the yummy part of my day vegan brownies.
There was a halt in production when I opened the bag of carob powder and it went EVERYWHERE and I just couldn't continue with out cleaning it up (off my blender, kettle, cutlery, counters)
BEFORE they went in the oven.

After they came out of the oven. They're suppose to look gooey

Taste test. . . . mmmmm
So that's about it kids that was my day. I'm off to . . . actually I dunno what I'm gonna do now.

VEGAN CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES!!!

So I have decided on a different lifestyle in becoming vegan (despite the fact all my friends don't understand why and don't think it's healthy when really it does soooo many good things for your body) It's mostly to adapt a healthier lifestyle and also I've become more aware of all the animal cruelty out there and don't feel the need to consume anything with any animal products. sooooo today I made vegan chocolate chip cookies (well semi-vegan i couldnt find vegan chocolate chips or carob chips but it says MAY have milk products - I'm not a full fledged vegan yet)
After watching the Food 101 episode of Oprah and Alicia Sliverstone's The Kind Diet I was fascinated. so that what i intend to start . . . soon.

These cookies took no time. like 10 mins to prepared then less than 12 minutes to cook (there's no eggs and no worry of eating anything raw)

in the middle in oil, sugar and vanilla in a well (as they called it) flour. looks kinda cool

see it looks just like regular dough

just chilling in the oven . . . well the opposite of chilling

the finished product! They don't taste bad but I will bring them to work to let people try em out.

Planetarium

So, what do you do when you have an A+
astronomy student in your presence?

...you make a planetarium. Duh.

And so we did.

A+ astronomy student.

This doesn't really show it that well, but please know that all the constellations are correct in their positions in the night sky.

Neerrrrdddss.

Lame post but what evs.

Final Product.

My camera is broken, please excuse the crappy photo quality.
I sewed my freshly painted buttons on to my hobo sweater with black embroidery thread.
I foresee many years of wear ahead for this sweater.

My Tuesday Evening in Pictures

So, I have this sweater.

I love this sweater.

My mother calls it my hobo sweater.
Others call it my old man sweater.
It don't care, I love it. It's cuddly and warm and goes perfectly with skinny jeans and boots.

There is only one problem with my old-man-hoboesque sweater: the buttons. The buttons are silver with a globe within an exploding star on them. They fit the ticket for old man sweater perfectly but drag down my personal cute quotient.
The Offensive Button:
(Please excuse my paint splattered fingers, it will all make sense momentarily.)

I've been searching for big flat black matte buttons to replace the gross ones, and for a long time, I was unsuccessful. UNTIL, today, when I wasn't even looking (isn't that always when you find stuff?) I found these:
The only thing wrong with these are that they look like banana chips.
I decided a paint job was in order.
So, I did:

Just waiting for the paint to dry....

I'll keep you posted.
