Last night the Canucks ELIMINATED the Chicago Blackhawks out of the playoffs in a VERY VERY nerve wracking game. I could not keep still and I dunno if it was a good idea for me to hold scissors either but I managed to make a few things.
1)my roommate was in the hospital yesterday because of appendicitis scary shit man from what I heard from her. . . so I baked her cookies and put this on top.
2) My friend Daria's little boy Diego turns 7 on friday so I decided to make him a card seeing how I had all the crafty things out.
I tell ya my hands were shaking I couldn't hold a pen properly and my writing was messing I had to be really careful with the scissors but I couldn't just sit there and watch the game it was definitely a nail biter. Chicago has knocked them out of the first round twice (or was it thrice?) one of the two . . . oh man all i gotta say is there were a lot of happy vancouverites today me included decked out in my jersey and all :D

What I Wore Wednesday: Freedom Fries
This has been my life for the last two weeks. Study. Study. Study. Sleep. Rinse. Repeat.
But I just finished my last final- which means I'm done for the whole semester! Never again will I have to read war poetry against my own will. Cue sigh of relief. Now I have two whole weeks of freedom.
This is what I wore today. Please excuse how dumb (and slightly blind) I look. I was rushing out the door to get to my War history exam.
Top: Patch consignment
Vest: Buffalo Exchange consignment
Belt: Gifted, about five years ago
Jeans: Value VIllage
Shoes: Value Village

The BEST cookies I've ever made to date!
I kid you not even my NON-vegan meat eating boss was like "these are really good" or maybe he was just making me feel good as he was just about to drive me to the hospital :P
the recipe calls for raisins but HONESTLY who likes raisins?? NOBODY! so I put carob chips in it and it was lovely!
I made them again tonight but I put some coconut on top of a few cuz my roommate loves coconut. They just weren't the same this time though . . . first time was beginner's luck? dumb luck? I dunno they just turned out better.

What I Wore Wednesday: Rad Plaid Part Deux.
Hey all,
Today's What I Wore Wednesday is super lame... and a little crunched on time. Hence the photo quality. Rushed out the door this morning for a trial shift at a job I'm hoping to get (cross your fingers, cross your fingers, please!)and thus not only didnt have the time to make myself super cute, but also dressed appropriately for a job of running around. I had five minutes to snap an outfit shot and had decided I was going to brave public shots again, but there were too many people/bad lighting/movers/builders/traffic all over the place and the only place I could find was cramped, hence the head chop. Luckily, I took a picture of my face before leaving (complete with the make-my-hair-curly-wet-hair-bun) so today's visual evidence of my outfit is sort of like a jigsaw puzzle.

Julz's Guide to Being a Thrift Shop Junkie.
Hello, all. So there have been eleven What I Wore Wednesdays and during this time it has become alarmingly apparent that e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g I own is from a vintage store or a thrift shop. This is partially due to my recent realization that thrift shopping calms me. I don't know how sifting through old junk that one one else wants centres me so well, but it certainly does. So, I end up doing it quite a bit. Recently, I went to a vintage shop prior to hitting up Value Village, and I saw a lovely dress for $43. It was very adorable, but i passed, because I knew I could get more for my money at the Village. And I did. For $30, I bought two dresses, some cute housewares, and a very lovely blouse. It was then that I realized that I'm quite proficient at the thrifting experience. So, without further ado, 5 Thrifting Tricks of the Trade
1) As much as possible, look for quality. Check for stains, holes and discolouring. Seam holes are easily fixable, but common. Check under the arms and along the edges. Stains usually present a bigger problem. Remember, if a stained item is at a thrift store, the original owner probably already tried to get the stain out.And failed. Don't think that you can buy it and have the miracle cure to fix the stain. These heels were quite adorable but quite stained. Pass!
2) Don't overpay. The best way to know if you're overpaying is shopping around. Know how much brands usually go for new. As much as Value Village has better pricing than vintage stores, it has gotten a lot more expensive in recent years. The dress below is a great example. The asking price was $14.99 and the brand was Joe. Knowing that this dress would not cost much more than that brand new means it gets left on the rack.
3) Sizing counts. This dress has a vintage flare that I was particularly drawn to, but the oversized droopyness in the bust really meant it was a no-go. Alterations are always a plausible option, but I would hold off unless its for an item you really really love. Often, alterations cost more than the item itself, which is great if you are already buying on the cheap, but gets expensive. Also, I find that buying stuff that requires professional alterations will more often than not end up in a bag waiting to be altered. And the last thing you want is a pile of unwearable clothes that never made it to the sewing machine. Buy with an eye to alter, but only alter must have pieces.
No, really. It's important that it fits. This looked great on the rack, not so great on me.
4) Having said that, I would also strongly encourage trying on everything that catches your fancy. There's a chance it'll look awful, but there's also a chance it will look fantastic. And if you don't try it on, you'll never ever know. Keeping an open mind is the best way to go about this. I usually grab a belt to try dresses on with, because a belt can change the whole look of an item. I'm an equal opportunist when it comes to clothing.
5) Look in every department high and low. I peruse the whole store, from furniture to kids clothes. Not just because you never know what you'll find, but because so many people cart stuff around and then dump it in random places. Things aren't always where they should be! Also, perusing the racks at the fitting rooms is also a great decision, it's like someone pre-shopped for you!
Honestly, you'll find the cutest things where you least expected. Now, who wants to guess what I did or didn't buy from these pictures? Anyone?
Happy thrifting!

What I Wore Wednesday: I'm Excited.
I'm excited.
About everything. The feeling of renewal in the spring time really really affects me. Maybe I have a Seasonal Affectiveness Disorder. Add that to my self-diagnosed A.D.D., makes for a lot of letters. Anyway, I had the loveliest weekend I've had in a long time and spent a day exploring a nearby town. It was sunny and bright, which made it the perfect weather to walk along the beach.
Stupidly, I forgot my camera.
Anyway, this is what I wore today, followed by some stuff I'm excited about.
I'm excited that I got to wear this dress without a ton of layers.
In these shots, I changed my self-timer to a 2 second option as opposed to my usual ten second timeframe, so these pictures may look like my usual dance shots, but really I'm running to get back in time. Haha. My outfit, as usual, is entirely thrifted. <3
I'm excited about eating more salad and having more fruit and veggies at my disposal with the coming summer months.
I'm excited that I made these banana-peanut butter-chocolate chip muffins that remind me so so much of being a kid.
I'm excited about how massive these dumplings came out.
I'm excited that despite gray skies, the spring is persistent in announcing its arrival.
I'm excited that while amidst my studying for exams, I was able to find all my books for next semester at Value Village for $15, total. This is especially exciting because at the school bookstore, each book cost about $17. This pile is books from my current semester, next semester, and my pleasure reading as of late.
And I'm excited that pretty weather makes me want to test out posing for outfit shots in public.
IN PUBLIC.
This was during a little rain... so positioning of the camera was hard, but I think I'll work it out when it's a little drier. People were surprisingly unbothered by the girl setting up her camera and running back to pose...by herself.
I hope you're excited too!

Anything to Facilitate Laziness
So I have a bad tendency to forget about the stuff I own. It'll sit in a drawer, folded away in the back, just waiting for me to re-discover it. On one hand, I suppose, it's okay because I'm constantly falling in love with my wardrobe all over again. But it's really irritating with say, sunglasses. I am a big sunglasses wearer, and as it is just starting to become the appropriate weather for them, I figured I should devise a new system so I wouldn't forget about them. This is hanging right by my door, so if I forget to put them on on my way out now I don't know what to do. It can't get more obvious.
Anyway.
Off for a day of 'sploring.
Have a wonderful Saturday.
xx
